OUR MISSION.

SQE fights for a more accessible, equitable, and higher quality CSU. Here at Cal Poly, that can be a lot of things. SQE's primary focus however revolves around 3 general topics: Opposing all fee increases, prmoting ethnic, gender, and critical theory programs, and to to pursue social justice.

We beleive in the California Master Plan for Higher Education, and the vision it lays out--we imagine a transformed CSU that more closely resembles its former self. That means fighting for free tuition, quality education, and social justice.

SQE is committed to dismanlting the interlocking systems of institutional power that have led to a demise of the CSU. We are against privitization, corporate sponsorship, and top-down governance0--and truly beleive that the People's university should be governed by the people, for the people.

Why is the "Sustainable" Financial Model so unsustainable?

In the fight for the future of the CSU, student voices must be heard! The

CSU administration's proposed “sustainability model” will not sustain a public, accessible, affordable CSU. It proposes increasing tuition/fees every year based on inflation, cutting financial aid, and increasing reliance on private corporations. When the CSU budget was cut during the recession, the burden was placed on the back of students, with tuition skyrocketing almost 300% in the last 15 years (far beyond the cost of inflation). We cannot afford any more fees. It is a matter of priorities, and we demand that the CSU prioritize students by

(1) committing to no more fee increases and

(2) continuing to advocate for a fully-funded, public CSU.

Join us in letting the Board of Trustees know that we will only accept a sustainability model that sustains the ability for ALL students to attend and succeed in the CSU for years to come.

THE HARD TRUTH

Students for Quality Education recognizes the fact that the California State Legislature has jurassically cut the CSU's budget. But we also demand that CSU administration do a better job at managing funds, promoting a path to free public higher ed in California, and opposing fee increases.

Campus based fees have increased by 68% since 2010, while admin salary spending has increased by 55% over the same period.

CSU lecturers now makeup over 50% of all instructors.

The CSU is on a volatile path towards privatization, lower quality education, expensive tuition, and a model of governance that puts administrators first, while putting students and faculty last.

Together, students and faculty secured a 10.5% general salary increase over the next three years. This was a huge victory!

Now we must use the momentum, knowledge, and power we build during 2016 strike organizing, and oppose the CSU's proposed Sustainable Financial Model!

Lets hold the CSU accountable to its core principles as an accessible, high quality, and equitable public higher education university system.
